Telman Gasanov, P.E.

Principal, Energy & Sustainability

Mr. Gasanov leads BEE's Energy and Sustainability practice on the principle that the cost of compliance is a design decision, not a fixed line item. He and his teams evaluate options up front to find what matters for the specific building, then strip out the boilerplate measures a default checklist approach carries along but that are not relevant, efficient, or cost-justified on that project. They model on fixed fee with unlimited iterations, so a modest design fee never becomes the reason an owner leaves a much larger optimization on the table.

Mr. Gasanov oversees both the Energy Department and the Sustainability Department. His energy teams deliver whole building energy modeling, performance analysis, and code compliance from early design through close-out, so targets are set realistically and met without late redesign. His sustainability teams provide program consulting and third-party verification across Built Green, Energy Star, HERS, LEED, Phius, and NGBS, along with benchmarking and building performance standard compliance for existing buildings.

Mr. Gasanov joined BEE in 2012 in the Building Envelope group and moved into the Energy Department in 2015. He built the energy practice from a single-person function into the firm's combined Energy and Sustainability departments, and was named Department Manager in 2017, and Principal in 2018. He also directs the firm's marketing and business development and led the team that designed and built BEE's proprietary proposal application, cutting proposal turnaround across the firm. Before BEE, he spent eleven years in architectural and MEP design across Turkmenistan, Turkey, and Qatar, directing a design group at Adamant Engineering on civic and institutional projects including a hippodrome, a stadium, a hospital, schools, and mixed-use multifamily, and producing mechanical drawings and specifications at Ekin Proje for the New Doha International Airport and the Ashgabat Diagnostic Center. In 2018 he co-founded ATVAGA Energy, an engineering support firm with offices in Edmonds, Kyiv, and Ashgabat, whose distributed structure is what makes fixed-fee modeling with unlimited iterations workable.

Mr. Gasanov's focus is on making sustainable development affordable to projects of every size through efficient design. He volunteers in public schools and has served on the City of Everett Diversity Board, the City of Everett Rethink Housing Action Plan Advisory Committee, and the Exemplary Building Task Force of the Housing Development Consortium of Seattle-King County.
